Complex Instruction
The following is a lesson plan designed for Complex Instruction, otherwise known as the feared "Group Project." This lesson was designed to bring together small groups, given specific dimensions so that all students are participating.
COLLABORATIVE ART GROUP PROJECT
Period #: _____
Name of Group: Final presentation method:
Names of members in group:
Your group will be designing and creating a collaborative art project. Using the pinterest page https://www.pinterest.com/smarts63/art-project-ideas-collaborative-projects/ you will use an idea, or come up with your own for the group. Each person in the group (5-6) people will be assigned a job. You will have 1 class period to research and one to plan for materials and the creation of a time table. You will have 1 week to complete the project and you will create a final presentation explaining your project to the rest of the class. That presentation can be any type that you would like, i.e. a prezi or a powerpoint, or a graphic organizer. Your teacher can be used as a sounding block and support, but it is expected that your group will do the work. The final project will be displayed at a community art show, so it should be quality work with all of the group members actively involved. At the end of the project, you will grade yourself as well as each member of the group.
In order to ensure that your group works together to enhance your learning experience and to ensure full participation by every member of the group, each student in the group is assigned one of the following roles:
-
A group facilitator who keeps the group on task
-
-
A harmonizer who ensures participation and civility
-
-
A materials manager who gathers materials needed for the group product
-
-
A reporter who explains the group process during the presentation
-
-
A resource/technology manager who gathers any additional resources or content materials needed
-
-
A technology manager who gathers input from the group and creates the final digital presentation
-
Use the following questions to help plan your project and presentation. All questions must be answered in the final presentation:
-
What is your theme and final project plan?
-
How did you involve everyone in the group in coming to a decision?
-
How will each individual piece come together to make a whole?
-
What is your proposed display technique?
-
What research did you have to do to establish your project idea and display technique?
-
Did you have to establish a group protocol to ensure everyone in the group participated? If so, explain.
-
Are there any issues or concerns that the group recognized at the beginning of the project and how did you, as a group, solve these issues?
